Instructions

1
Cut the cantaloupe, strawberries and honeydew melon into bite size pieces. Slice the oranges and remove the stems from the cherries. Store in a plastic bag in the fridge until the party.
-
2
Cut the bottom of the watermelon off to make a flat surface for the bottom of the basket. Make sure it is only a small slice, and you do not cut into the fruit.
-
-
3
Mark the watermelon halfway horizontally, to represent the rim. Mark a 1.5 to 2 inch strip in the middle to denote the handle. You can either make the handle with two straight lines or add jagged edges if you have a pairing knife.
-
4
Cut the watermelon along the lines with the knife or carving tool. Separate the cut parts from the body of the watermelon.
-
5
Use a melon baller to empty the watermelon. Save the melon balls. Remove the non-edible parts of the inside of the watermelon with a spoon. Make sure to scrap the handle as well, but not too much. You will use the handle for stability, but not transport.
-
6
Use the toothpicks to place the orange slices and cherries as garnish along the edges. Fill the belly of the watermelon with the other fruits mixed together to create a salad.
