Instructions

  1. Tying a Flower Garland

    • 1

Cut the stems of the flowers so there is about one inch from the base of the flower bud. Use the knife to cut the stems at a slight angle.

    • 2

Hold the flower vertically, with the bud facing the ceiling. Wrap the thread around the middle of the flower stem one full time.

    • 3

Hold the thread around the stem in place with one hand, and with the other hand, form a loop with the thread, similar to the loop you would use when you are tying your shoes. The bottom of the loop, where the two sides of the thread come together, should be close to the flower stem. Hold the thread at the base of the loop.

    • 4

Turn the loop so that the two threads cross over each other, and then guide the loop over the flower bud to the center of the flower stem. Pull the bottom thread of the loop until it is tight around the flower stem. Place the next flower upside down, with the bud facing the floor, so that the two stems overlap each other. Repeat the process.

Tips & Warnings

  • Practice tying a flower garland by using straws cut in halves or thirds, so you can get used to tying the knots and making the loops without damaging the flowers.
