How to Convert Tiff to Dwg
Plans and designs are at the heart of building anything. These days many structures and machines are designed directly on a computer. But sometimes designs are still provided on paper, which makes it difficult if you prefer to do your work on a computer. If you have an image file, say a Tiff image of a plan or design that you would like to be able to convert to the DWG format for use in an architectural or modeling program, the process is straightforward, if a bit tedious, and can be done using almost any basic 3D modeling program like Hexagon.

1
Load your image onto your computer. If the image is only in print format, scan it in using a quality scanner set to a high resolution and save it as Tiff file.
-
2
Open Hexagon. Go to the "Scene" panel and click on "Properties." You will see three grids listed. Click on the empty box next to the bottom grid. This will activate it for adding an image. Now click on the "Browse" button next to it and browse to the Tiff file you want to convert and open it. The image on the Tiff will now be applied to the grid surface as a reference.

In the upper left corner of the view, click on "Perspective" view to bring up the view options. Select "Top." Now select the "Lines" tab at the top and click on the "Polyline" tool. Use the tool to trace the outer lines of the shape in the Tiff image. Click "Enter" to close the line. Then start adding in the inner lines for things like walls. If you need to add a point to a previous line, click on the "Add Point" tool.

When you are finished, go back to the "Scene Properties" and turn off the grid so you can better examine your work. Make sure you haven't left any unconnected lines anywhere. If you have, you can use the "Close Curve" tool to close them.

Select "File," choose "Export" and click "DWG." Name your file and save it. You have now converted you Tiff image into a DWG file.
