How to Really Know If You Become Pregnant

Trying to figure out if your efforts to become pregnant were successful can be tricky. A lot of common pregnancy symptoms can also be linked to simple premenstrual ones. The only way to really know for sure if you are pregnant is to take a home pregnancy test.

Check a calendar to see how long it has been since you've last had your period, especially if you've been experiencing symptoms such as morning sickness, fatigue or increased urination. If your period is due to arrive in the next four days, you can take an early home pregnancy test. The tests are most accurate, however, if you take them after your missed period.

Unwrap the pregnancy test and take off the cap. Urinate on the pregnancy test stick for the directed amount of time, usually around seven seconds. You can also choose to urinate in a container and dip the stick into the sample. After the sample has been absorbed thoroughly into the test stick, replace the cap and set the test on a flat surface.

Wait five minutes and look into the window of the test, assessing it via the directions that were included with the test. A positive result at this point is over 99 percent accurate, however a negative result is not. If you get a negative result, wait another week to see if you start your menstrual cycle before taking a second test.
