How to Plant Oklahoma Redbud Trees
The Oklahoma redbud is a delicate flowering tree native to the southern United States and features red or pink flowers. The redbud reaches a maximum height of 40 feet. It also can be grown in the western and eastern United States and as far north as southern Massachusetts. It will not tolerate the heat of southern California or Florida. The Oklahoma redbud prefers annual pruning to maintain tree health but its bark is delicate. Does this Spark an idea?

Determine where you will plant your redbud tree. Redbuds can survive in full sun and part shade environments and do well in containers and ground plantings.

Prepare the ground by weeding and aerating the soil with a shovel. Dig a hole two to three times as large as the rootball of your Oklahoma redbud.

Remove the tree from its container. Gently massage the rootball with your fingers.

Place the redbud sapling in the hole at the same depth as it was planted in the container.

Make sure the tree is straight and begin to cover over with soil. Continue to add potting soil until there is a small mound around the base of the tree and the tree is secure. Do not pack the soil tightly.

Water the tree roots thoroughly. This should compact the soil.

The Oklahoma redbud is tolerant of drought conditions but not extreme heat or cold.
