How to Get Off of Felony Probation Legally

Probation may be ordered instead of jail or prison time in some felony cases. If you have been sentenced to complete felony probation, you are probably aware that there is a set limit of time in which you will be monitored by your probation officer. The probation officer will have certain requirements that you will need to complete, called a case plan. You may want to finish your requirements early to be released from probation. There are a few things to consider to help yourself speed up the process.

Instructions

    • 1

Attend every meeting with your probation officer. Do not reschedule or show up late. Your probation officer will be keeping track of any missed appointments or late arrivals.

    • 2

Follow instructions closely and do not violate your probation terms. It is a safe assumption that you are restricted from the use of alcohol or drugs and will be tested for both at random intervals. Also, stay away from drinking establishments and other felons, as usually visiting them is restricted as well.

    • 3

Complete the goals that your probation officer set with you at your first meeting. Some of those goals might include obtaining a GED (if you don't have a diploma), gaining steady employment, paying off fines or court costs or completion of alcohol or drug treatment.

    • 4

Talk with your probation officer about your progress after the completion of your goals. Ask him or her if early release is an option for you. Your probation officer may decide to terminate your probation with an exit interview, or ask you to complete the term.
