How to Make a Paper Bag Book Cover With Pictures
The first days of school for our kids bring back the memories of our own textbooks covered with paper bags. But kids today want a little more excitement in their book covers. You can help them cover their books with paper bags, but add pictures of their friends to make the covers personal and meaningful.
Things You'll Need
- Large paper bags
- Scissors
- Pictures
- Pencil
- Cutting board
- Exacto knife
- Double sided tape
- Clear contact paper
- Tape
Instructions
-
-
1
Cut apart the paper bag so that it lays flat. Lay your open book, centered on the paper bag.
-
2
Trim the bag with your scissors so that the paper bag is 2 inches bigger than your book all the way around.
-
-
3
Fold the book closed, bringing the paper bag with it. Make crease marks in the paper bag on both sides of the book binding, at the top and bottom of the book and at the outsides of both book covers.
-
4
Open the book and the paper bag and lay the bag flat again.
-
5
Flip the paper bag around to the front of the cover. Arrange your pictures however you desire on the front of your book cover. Make pencil marks at each corner of each picture.
-
6
Put a cutting board underneath the paper bag book cover. Use the exacto knife to make slits to hold the corners of the pictures. Make sure to cut the slits about a ½ inch in from where you made the pencil marks for the pictures.
-
7
Place some double-sided tape on the back of the pictures. Slide the corners of the pictures into the slits. Bend, without creasing, the pictures if necessary to fit the final corner into its slit. Press down to make the tape stick.
-
8
Lay the paper bag cover flat on your work surface with the right side facing down. Fold the paper at the crease marks made in Step 3.
-
9
Cut a piece of contact paper to the same size as the paper bag book cover. Take off the protective paper and lay the contact paper flat on the table.
-
10
Lay the paper bag book cover on top of the contact paper with the sticky part of the paper against the pictures on your book cover to prevent damage or loss to your pictures.
-
11
Press all the air bubbles out of the contact paper.
-
12
Set the book on top of the paper bag book cover. Slip the covers of the book into the flaps formed by the folds on either side of the paper bag cover. Use tape to secure the four corners of the book.
