Things You'll Need:
- Flat-head screwdriver
- Phillips-head screwdriver
- Hammer
-
Step 1
Open the door on which you wish to remove the lock. Engage the lock into locking mode; you will know it is in the correct mode when the lock is sticking out of the door frame.
-
Step 2
Using your screwdriver (usually a Phillips-head), remove the screws that anchor the lock in place (On one side of the door you will see two screws on opposite sides of the lock.)
-
Step 3
As you remove the screws, use your other hand to hold the locking mechanism in place on the other side of the door. Once the screws are removed, pull the lock apart on both sides. Be gentle, you do not want to damage the wood in the door as you remove the lock.
-
Step 4
If the lock does not easily pull away, consider that your lock may have rusted or have been painted in place. If you have this problem, use your flat-head screw driver to gently pry between the lock and the door, then tap each side with your hammer until it loosens. Again, be careful, you do not want to damage the door.
-
Step 5
Remove the sticker plate. The sticker plate is the metal plate on the inside portion of the door. Using your screwdriver, remove the two screws that hold this in place.
-
Step 6
Remove the remaining lock mechanism. Using the hole now exposed by the removal of the sticker plate, you should be able to reach in and remove the remaining locking mechanism; this should pull away with no problem. Your lock is now uninstalled.
