So you want to fix a ripped porch screen. Most porch screens are made from roll-out metal mesh that's attached to the wooden frames of your porch. The downside to this is once the screen is torn, there's no real way to replace it; like paper, once it's ripped, it's ripped. The good news is that replacing the screen is a relatively cheap and simple process that just about anyone can do.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Measure your window opening. Measure on the frame of the window, with your measuring tape pressed flat and straight along the frame for the most accurate measurement possible. Add two inches to each side to overlap the frame.

  2. Step 2

Purchase your screen. Visit your local hardware store; most will be able to cut you a new custom metal mesh screen while you wait.

  3. Step 3

Using an assistant, if possible, hold your screen over the window opening. Line it up so it's as centered and flat as possible.

  4. Step 4

Staple each of the corners down using your staple gun. Then proceed to put a staple every six inches or so around the outside edge of the frame to hold it in place and avoid having any animals push their way through.

  5. Step 5

Your new screen is now ready for use.
