How to Draw a Fire Extinguisher

Having the ability to draw a basic fire extinguisher is useful if you're trying to draw a sign that can point people in the direction of a fire extinguisher without using words. This type of drawing is also useful when you're drawing a comic or a cartoon--a fire extinguisher drawn on the wall adds realism and makes for a reasonable detail to place in a background.

Instructions

    • 1

Draw a rectangle with rounded edges, approximately 2 inches tall and 1/2 inch wide. This is the fire extinguisher body.

    • 2

Draw a circle centered on top of the fire extinguisher body, centered in the middle. The circle represents the gauge. The gauge should be slightly more than 1/4 inch tall.

    • 3

Draw a stem protruding from the gauge on the left side. The stem should be 1/4 inch wide and 1/8 inch tall. This is where the fire extinguisher discharges from.

    • 4

Draw a longer stem, 1/2 inch long and 1/8 inch wide, on the right side of the gauge, angled upward. This is the handle.

    • 5

Draw a second longer stem, 1/2 inch long and 1/8 inch wide, on the right side of the gauge, angled downward. This is the operating lever.

Tips & Warnings

  • These instructions will create the most basic fire extinguisher shape--almost an iconic fire extinguisher. Add details like numbers on the gauge, or even color (usually red), for a more realistic image.
