How to Draw the Confederate Flag

The Confederate flag is also known as "Dixie," the "Rebel Flag," the "Stars and Bars" and the "Southern Cross." It was actually the Battle Flag of Northern Virginia and not the national flag of the Confederacy. The Confederate flag has thirteen stars representing the number of Confederate states. Originally, the flag was square but is now rectangular.

The Confederate flag is a symbol of racism and oppression for some and an affirmation of state's rights for others. Whatever its true meaning, it is certainly a controversial flag.

Instructions

  1. Drawing the Flag

    • 1

Mark a point on the exact center of your paper and turn the paper horizontally.

    • 2

Draw a line from the top left corner of the paper to the bottom right corner through the center point. Draw another line from the top right corner of the paper to the bottom left corner through the center point. These will be your diagonals.

    • 3

Measure 1/2 inch above one diagonal and draw a line parallel to the diagonal from one side of the paper to the other. Repeat for the other diagonal. These will be the outer edges of your stripes.

    • 4

Measure 1/2 inch below the same diagonal and draw another parallel line to the opposite corner of the paper. Repeat this process for the other diagonal. These will be the outer edges of your stripes.

    • 5

Measure 1/4 inch above the bottom edge of one stripe and draw a line parallel to the diagonal to the other side of the paper. Repeat for the other stripe. This will form the border of the stripe.

    • 6

Measure 1/4 inch below the top edge of one stripe and draw a line parallel to the diagonal to the other side of the paper. Repeat for the other stripe. This will form the border of your stripe.

    • 7

Erase the center diagonals you drew in Step 2.

    • 8

Erase the lines in the center of the paper where the two stripes cross.

    • 9

Draw a five-pointed star directly in the center of the paper where the stripes cross.

    • 10

Draw three stars an equal distance apart in each section of the stripe above and below the center star.

    • 11

      Color the stars white.
