How to Create a Free Flash Game

Creating a free Flash game can be a fun and easy process lasting only a few minutes -- or hours, if you're really having fun. One way of making a Flash game is to copy an existing game, and rearrange its parts to your own liking. PlayCrafter.com is a site where you can create a game this way.

To make your own Flash game, complete the following steps.

Instructions

    • 1

Surf to PlayCrafter.com and play a few of the games there. Playing games before you make them will give you an idea of the kinds of games you can create.

    • 2

Click the "Launch PlayCrafter" button, which is on the home page of PlayCrafter.com

    • 3

Select the Chopper Game to copy: On the page showing the headings "Featured Games" and "Make a Game," scroll to the Chopper game and click its icon.

    • 4

Play the Chopper game a couple of times. The goal is to shoot out all the gun turrets (the circles) before they shoot you.

    • 5

Make the Chopper game easier to play: Click on one of the gun turrets, which causes two icons to appear. The left icon is for "stamping" the gun, which means you can left-click on the canvas (the game's background) to make as many guns as you like. But click on the other icon instead, the "x," which deletes the gun. Delete all but two or three of the guns by clicking their "x" icons.

    • 6

Play the game again, noticing how much easier it is with fewer guns shooting at you.

    • 7

Add another level to the game by clicking the "Add Level" button at the right of the game canvas. The new level is blank, which means you'll have to fill it with environment pieces and guns.

Create some obstacles to shoot through: From the Game Kit pane toward the left of your screen, drag a rectangle icon onto the canvas. If you don't see the rectangle, use the left or right arrow buttons at the bottom of the Game Kit until you see it.

Once you've dragged a rectangle onto the canvas, make a stamp of it by clicking it, then clicking its stamp icon. Click several places on the canvas to create rectangles.

Create guns in the same way you created the rectangles: click their stamp icons, then click on a few places on the canvas.

Play the game again, this time with the second level. Save your game to edit or play again later. You'll need to create a free account with PlayCrafter to save the game, which requires an email address. Get your parents' permission to sign up if you're under 13.
