RAZR phones are common mobile devices that can be unlocked. Unlock codes give phones the ability to be accessible in a specific mobile network. There are specific codes for each mobile network, therefore codes vary, which is why the code must be purchased for the mobile carrier you are using. Once the phone is unlocked, it can be used for incoming and outgoing calls, sending and receiving text messages, mobile Internet access, and any other features the phone has to offer.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Download Motorola's unlock software. Click the download link and select the "Save" option in the download window (See resources).

  2. Step 2

Click on the second radio button next to the advanced option in the installation wizard. This option will enable you to install the drivers from a specific location on your computer.

  3. Step 3

Conduct and complete the full installation process by selecting all of the recommended settings and configuration options.

  4. Step 4

Run the Motorola Unlock tool that will be listed in the Motorola Unlocking software's application window when the program opens.

  5. Step 5

Connect the RAZR phone to the computer via USB sync cable. The application will begin working immediately to detect the phone's connection.

  6. Step 6

Select the Motorola RAZRs model in the drop-down menu on the right pane of the screen, and click on the "Start" button in the bottom right corner of the screen. The RAZR phone's unlock code will appear in the middle pane of the unlock application.

  7. Step 7

Contact your mobile service provider's technical support department. (There is usually a toll-free contact number for the mobile service provider.) Request to unlock your RAZR phone. Follow the mobile service representative's instructions to implement the code so the phone can be unlocked and programed for usage.

Tips & Warnings
  • Contacting customer service via telephone is probably the easiest way to unlock and program the phone. Going into a store to complete the action may make the process a little more difficult than it has to be, as most store employees specialize in sales, rather than technical support. Some mobile service providers may also charge technical support fees in the store.
  • Have your account information prepared when you contact customer service. Otherwise, the representative may not be able to access your account or verify your identity so your request can be met.
  • The mobile service provider will not be able to unlock the phone if it is blacklisted. Blacklisted devices are classified as stolen or lost items that have been disabled by a mobile service network to avoid unauthorized usage of the phone.
