How to Remove Rust From a Grill

Rust is a form of corrosion. Cooking grills typically have a coating that will prevent rusting, but once that coating has been scraped off, the grill can rust. Grills that have been exposed to the elements or washed without thorough drying are more prone to rust. The right tools allow a home cook to remove some rust from a grill.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

    Wash the grill with hot water and soap.

  2. Step 2

    Scrub the grill with the brass wire brush to remove debris and rust. Other wire brushes can leave behind pieces of steel that can rust.

  3. Step 3

    Rinse and dry the grill thoroughly.

  4. Step 4

    Use a rag to apply and rub the rusty areas with vegetable oil to help remove the rust.
