How to Locate Floor Drains in a Basement
Floor drains are installed in basements to help prevent standing water and flooding. A floor drain will usually be a grate several inches in diameter. The main function of floor drains is to drain the water out of your basement and empty directly into a sewer or your home's holding tank. Finding out where your floor drains are installed is usually a simple thing to do. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Look for low areas of the basement. Since floor drains are used to drain water away and water naturally flows to low spots, it would make sense to install a floor drain in a low area.

2
Check in the vicinity of your water heater and/or water softener. Floor drains will often be installed nearby to these.

Notice where your plumbing pipes are located, and find the access point to enter the plumbing. (The access point is where a roto rooter is inserted in to clear up clogs and such.) The access point will be a Y-shaped plumbing piece with a square bit on the end that unscrews. As water can leak out of this if there is a clog, there will most likely be a floor drain nearby.
