Choosing Your Cabinet
-
1
Gun cabinets are not expandable. A nine-gun cabinet will hold nine guns. Trying to expand the cabinet is more work than it is worth, and you could damage your guns by forcing too many into the cabinet. Keep that in mind if you intend to add more guns to your collection.

Consider whether you are storing rifles and shotguns, or pistols, or both. You might be able to store pistols in a cabinet built for long guns, but unless the manufacturer has included slots for pistols, storage will be haphazard and could damage your pistols. But many long-gun cabinets have slots for pistols.

How secure the cabinet needs to be will be determined by two factors. If children are in the house, or others who could harm someone accidentally, choose a secure cabinet with locks. Some cabinets have combination locks. Others have digital locks. They are not as expensive as you might think.

Consider the value of your gun collection. Antique guns can be quite valuable. High-end cabinets are strong enough to be considered vaults.

Tips & Warnings
Avoid low-end cabinets if you want to keep guns away from children. A pistol cabinet might be small enough that someone could steal it. A cabinet with an alarm system is worth the extra cost.
Glass-front cases are attractive, but they are the least secure. The glass can be broken easily.
