  1. Employment Goal Process

    • 1

Determine the type of job you desire. When you consider employment opportunities you should consider your skill set, experience and education to see where you may have the biggest impact. If you can find a job that you are passionate about, this will make all the difference in the world.

    • 2

Formulate your resume using all your skills, talent, ability, and previous experience. Your resume should be designed to explicitly target the position you desire. Make sure all of your accomplishments and awards are geared toward the job you hope to attain. When your resume is reviewed by a prospective employer, they should be able to quickly determine that your skills and accomplishments match the job. If your resume is too general or too broad, it will send the wrong message to the employer: They may think you lack focus and direction.

    • 3

Design your cover letter so it speaks volumes about your skills, accomplishments and experience. Make sure the employer knows why you would be a good fit for the advertised position. A cover letter should also have an eye-catching opening to make it stand out to the potential employer. Once you capture their attention, you want to keep it by presenting relevant information about yourself and how you can help the company achieve its goals and objectives.

    • 4

Start your job search. When you have your marketing tools completed you want to start your job search. More than 80 percent of jobs are found by networking. Order some business cards that have your personal information and visit places such as the local chamber of commerce. You can even network at the neighborhood coffee shop. Other avenues to pursue include the newspaper and some of the popular job search websites such as Career Builder and Monster. These sites allow you to search for a job using keywords, location, company or position.

    • 5

Prepare for the interview. Eventually you will get several interviews. You should prepare for the interview as though you were studying for a test. Find several questions that may be asked in the interview and practice answering them. Look up five or six good facts about the company you are interviewing with and be prepared to share that knowledge with the interviewer. Listen closely to what the interviewer is saying so you can ask good questions when the time comes. You don't want to ask about something the interviewer has already covered unless you want further clarification.
