How to Thread a Weed Wacker
No matter how thick your line is or how new your line trimmer is, sooner or later you will run out of line and have to replace it. The newer line trimmers have cartridges that just pop out for ease of use. Others have spools that just require you to remove some screws. Replacing your own line and spooling it yourself can save you some money. Does this Spark an idea?
Instructions

1
Unplug your line trimmer if it is electric. If it is gas, pull the spark plug cap off for safety reasons.
-
2
Undo the lock nut that holds the spool or head on. If it is on too tight for your fingers, use channel lock pliers to loosen it and apply a little lubricant. If there is no nut, then turn the whole head counterclockwise until it comes off. The machine should have an arrow to let you know which direction to take off the spool. Some trimmers may be reverse threaded.

3
Remove the empty spool or head.
-
4
Thread the new line, wrapping the line around the head in the direction of the arrows on the spool tightly.
-
5
Thread the new line through the line hole. Make sure you leave at least 6 inches out so that the line will feed properly.
-
6
Insert head back onto machine and hand tighten.

Tips & Warnings
While your head is off, this is the time to clean your line trimmer. A clean line trimmer adds years of service. Use a screw driver or sharp implement to chip away any hardened grass that has dried on the machine.
