HP printers are a tricky breed. On one hand, HP printers are wonderful and do a great job when they work, on the other hand, there are many snags on the way and even after you install your HP printer that can happen. Keep these instructions in case your HP printer becomes uninstalled for whatever reason, stops working, or you purchase a new one.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • HP printer
  • CD
  • Computer
  • Internet
  • HP model number
  1. Step 1

Unpack your HP printer, unpacking all of the materials and locate the installation poster and CD.

  2. Step 2

Power on your HP printer but do not connect it via wireless or USB cable at this time.

  3. Step 3

Insert the ink cartridge per directions on the poster. Insert properly into the carriage after removing the protective tape. Run alignment as prompted by your printer.

  4. Step 4

Place the HP CD in the tray in your computer. This contains either wireless or wired (USB) drivers for your computer. This is essential, as your HP cannot function without drivers. It also cannot function if the drivers become corrupt, so you will need to follow these steps to reinstall.

  5. Step 5

Connect the USB cable only when you are prompted on the screen. If you are setting up a wireless HP printer, skip this step.

  6. Step 6

Remove the CD from the tray and restart the computer if prompted.

  7. Step 7

Print a test page from any software on the computer or from the printer properties tab where it states "print test page."

Tips & Warnings
  • These steps will work for any type of HP printer, including an all in one.
  • If you lose your CD, go on the hp website and type in your printer model number. There is a link in resources.
