How to Untangle a Necklace

Ever have a necklace that is so tangled you fear it can not be fixed? It happens every so often, but there is a way to untangle that necklace.

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging

Instructions

Step 1

First, unfasten the necklace if it is still fastened. This makes untangling easier since you can work with one side of the necklace.
Step 2

Keep the knots as loose as possible. Use your hands to loosen them and for very tight knots use a sewing needle. Place the sharp end of the needle in the middle of the needle and pull slightly.
Step 3

Once the knots are loose, take the one side of the necklace and follow it's "path" while untangling. Sometimes you will have to put the end of the necklace inside loops to follow it's trail. This can take quite a while depending on how sever the tangle is.
Step 4

In the event that two necklaces get entangled together, concentrate on untangling one necklace from the other. Choose the necklace with fewer number of knots.

Tips & Warnings

Using baby oil on very tight knots can sometimes help them.
Store necklaces in straws! Take a regular drinking straw, place the chain in it with the fasteners on either end and fasten. It keeps the necklaces knot free!
The smaller the links on the chain, the more likely they are to knot up.
