Step 1
Sign up for a Smilebox account. They offer both a free one (with ads) or a paid membership. Try out the free one first to see how well it suits your library's needs.
-
Step 2
Download the program to your computer from the website. Experiment with the features and different designs. Send a few photos to a staff member using a Smilebox slideshow to test it out. The program sends you an e-mail saying it was sent. That gives you a chance to see how the finished product looked.
-
Step 3
Collect e-mail addresses of library supporters, Friends of the Library, community leaders, and library customers.
-
Step 4
Promote your book displays or new booksUse the slideshow to promote new books received by the library or promote a book display. Just use a digital camera to photograph the individual book covers or the book display. Upload the photographs to a computer and put them into a Smilebox framework.
-
Step 5
Add wording and choose from the music selections that go with that design. Send it to library patrons who provided their e-mail addresses.
-
Step 6
Use the slideshows to thank library volunteers for their help. Photograph volunteers performing a variety of tasks in the library and make it into a slideshow to send to all volunteers.
-
Step 7
Promote the library with a slideshow to e-mailMake a slideshow with photos showing improvements to the library. E-mail it to the library board members and city management at the end of the library's fiscal year.
-
Step 8
Put together a slideshow promoting an upcoming program or a new service. Once you start experimenting with the Smilebox slideshows, you'll think of more and more uses for them.
