Treat Thrush Tongue

Thrush tongue is caused by the yeast Candida albicans. An overgrowth of this microorganism in the mouth is referred to as oral thrush, candidiasis, Candida infection, or oral yeast infection. These infections can be quite painful and cause little white spots that cover the entire inside of the mouth, tongue, throat, cheeks, etc. Men, women, and babies are all prone to these infections. Treatment will depend on the patient’s age, the cause of the infection, and the state of the patient’s overall health. Here’s how to effectively treat thrush tongue.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

The first step in treating thrush on your tongue is to take medications. If you are an adult, your prescription will be stronger than if you are a child. Nursing babies often get oral thrush and it is important to treat the mother so the infection is not passed back and forth.

  2. Step 2

While taking the medications, you can also be gargling with warm salt water to ease your symptoms. Thrush tongue can be very painful and the warm salt water helps to alleviate some of the pain. You can also gargle on a mixture of water and tea tree oil or peroxide and apple cider vinegar.

  3. Step 3

The next step is to eat unsweetened yogurt. This contains the “good” bacteria which are replaced back into our systems to fight the yeast causing your thrush tongue.

  4. Step 4

Next take a daily probiotic supplement. These also contain the good bacteria. These come in liquid form as well as in tablets. Adults and children are able to take these to fight the infection but not infants.

Tips & Warnings
  • If it is a baby suffering with tongue thrush, it is important to wash and sterilize all baby bottle nipples, pump machines, and pacifiers. You can use vinegar mixed with water to accomplish this.
