Granite counter tops are one of the hottest trends for kitchen and bathroom countertops. In order to get this look, you are likely going to have to spend quite a bit to get it, unless you use these tips. Here is how to save money on granite countertops.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Look at online retailers who sell granite. These retailers often sell slabs of granite for up to half off what you would pay at a home improvement store. Just be careful that the shipping charges do not cost too much. You can always see if it is possible to pick the slab up yourself so you do not incur this charge.

  2. Step 2

Try your local surplus home improvement store for granite countertops. Quite often, these places charge much less than larger stores, but the selection will not be as good. If you can work what they have into your kitchen or bathroom remodel, it can be a great way to save.

  3. Step 3

If you are replacing a small bathroom vanity already and want granite countertops, look at Lowe’s and Home Depot. Both stores offer a small vanity with a granite countertop for around $200. This can be very convenient and a real money saver.

  4. Step 4

Installing granite tiles is another great way to get granite countertops. Not only is the cost of granite tile much less than the slab, but you can install the tiles yourself saving you the cost of installation.

  5. Step 5

Painting laminate countertops to resemble granite is another money saving option if granite is out of your price range. Many people have done this with great success. Try it in your budget kitchen remodel; you might be surprised how good it looks.
