Next to new cabinets, replacing kitchen countertops is usually one of the top wants in a kitchen remodel. Though this can be expensive, there are ways you can save money on kitchen countertops.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Paint your laminate countertops to resemble granite if they are in good shape but are ugly. This can be relatively easy with the right products and will probably only cost a little over $100.

  2. Step 2

Look at the local surplus home improvement store for good deals. They typically carry anything from laminate, to butcher block, to granite counter tops. Because they got these countertops cheaply, they pass some of the savings on to you. Though the selection isn’t always the best, it can be a great source of savings.

  3. Step 3

Find free or discounted broken ceramic tile and use to make a mosaic style countertop. When done in complementary colors, this can be a stunning option. And since you can do it yourself, you also save the cost of installation.

  4. Step 4

Install granite tiles for a more sophisticated look. Though this is more expensive than the other options, it is still much less expensive than a granite slab and you can install them yourself. If you have the extra money to spend, I would highly suggest this for your kitchen countertops.
