Wall murals bring a whole new element to a living room or bedroom. Decorating with wall murals can be a fun and rewarding project. Even if you aren't an artist, you can purchase wall murals or have a professional paint one for you.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Dramatize your space with a pre-fabricated wall mural, paint a mural yourself, or hire a professional to create the mural for you. A wall mural must cover the bulk of the wall you have chosen, and it must be the focal point of the room. Never put more than one wall mural in a room or it will lose its dramatic appeal.

  2. Step 2

Hang or paint your wall mural to where the center of the piece of art is exactly five feet from the floor. That way, the wall mural will not be too high or too low and it will bring depth to the living room or bedroom. Do not purchase or create a wall mural that doesn't leave any border around the edge of the piece. You want there to be a little breathing room on either side.

  3. Step 3

Choose a wall mural design that complements the current decor of your living room or bedroom. For example, choose black and white scenes for a modern or contemporary design. If your home decor is more country or romantic in its design, choose a wall mural that has a natural outdoor scene or floral theme.

  4. Step 4

Dare to use a wall mural that gives dimension to a room and appears to be 3D. If you allow the wall mural to give depth to the room, it will not shrink or make the room feel claustrophobic. Choose a wall mural that you will be able to use with new pieces of furniture in case they need to be replaced.

Tips & Warnings
  • If painting the wall mural yourself, make sure you outline it with soft lead or chalk before you actually begin painting.
  • Make sure your carpet, floors, furniture and accessories are properly covered when painting.
