Twitter is the most popular micro-blogging service on the Web and an excellent platform for establishing a personal brand. Since Twitter launched in 2006 it has gained international popularity. Twitter offers a way to create and reinforce your personal brand, build a business network and share comments and links with like-minded Twitter users.

Think of Twitter as an office water cooler. Just as colleagues visit the water cooler to share and discover what is happening, Twitter offers the same opportunity. And there is always room to become a more interesting contributor to the water-cooler gatherings.

Follow these helpful tips to learn how to create a personal Twitter brand.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Computer
  • Internet connection
  • Twitter account
  1. Step 1

    Write your bio
A strong personal brand on Twitter starts with a unique biography. As with all tweets, your biography, or ‘bio’ can only be 140 characters in length so give it real consideration. Your Twitter bio should uniquely communicate who you are and what you offer the Twitter community. Your goal is to spark interest; to inspire people to follow you. Choose words that are concise and describe the image – or brand - you want to project. Be sure to include a link to your business, blog or website in your Twitter profile.

  2. Step 2

    Upload your avatar
Post an image of yourself or use your business logo. Make sure the image is clean and uncluttered; anything too busy will look like a blur. The image you place on your Twitter profile should reinforce the words you chose for your bio. Strive for an impactful image that supports the brand you are creating. Do not use the default icon provided by Twitter. Your Twitter bio and avatar must be strong and work together to present a desired first impression.

  3. Step 3

    Tweet meaningfully.
Share insightful information, helpful tips and funny quips. Build your credibility and personal brand with interesting comments and observations. What you had for breakfast may not be interesting to your Twitter followers but a link to a significant article in the newspaper may be. Avoid the urge to over-promote by only posting links to your own business or blog. Engage with other Tweeters. Respond to posts that you find interesting.
Cultivate a supportive group of Twitter friends will assist in further building a solid personal brand.

Have fun, interact, and be relevant.

Tips & Warnings
  • Build your Twitter social network slowly and deliberately.
  • Do not fall for the scams promising thousands of Twitter followers.
