Jewelry Cleaning Solution

This jewelry cleaning solution is a trade secret amongst jewelers. It is THE most effective way to clean your jewelry gemstones to glittering brilliance. It is sold in various places on the internet, but it is very expensive. I have never found anything better. It is even better than ultrasonic cleaning. It bubbles and gets into the smallest nooks and crannies, loosens and lifts grime from ages past on old jewelry. You will be amazed at how alive your gems will be with fire after cleaning. This jewelry cleaning solution is made with common household ingredients. Never spend a lot of money on a jewelry cleaning solution again.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Ammonia
  • Hydrogen Peroxide
  • Pyrex Measuring Cup – 1 cup size
  • Oz measuring cup
  • Microwave
  • Jewelry to Clean (Do not use with amber, opals or pearls, coral, ivory or plated jewelry)
  1. Step 1

Measure 1 oz of Hydrogen Peroxide into the Pyrex Measuring cup.

  2. Step 2

Microwave for 30 seconds on HIGH and remove when done.

  3. Step 3

Drop your gemstone jewelry into the measuring cup with the Hydrogen Peroxide

  4. Step 4

Measure out and add ½ oz of ammonia to the measuring cup.

  5. Step 5

Swirl the solution to mix it up and let the two liquids combine. The jewelry solution will bubble and foam, lifting away all the dirt and grime on the stones.

  6. Step 6

Let bubble for about a minute. Longer for really dirty gemstone jewelry. Then, rinse with water until the solution is washed away.

  7. Step 7

Dry your gemstone jewelry with a paper towel. Your jewelry will be cleaner than you have ever seen it…except for the day that you bought it at the jewelers.

Tips & Warnings
  • To clean more jewelry all at once, just increase your amounts. Keep the ratio 2 parts Hydrogen Peroxide, 1 part Ammonia
  • WARNINGS – DO NOT USE with soft or organic based gems such as; pearls, opals, amber, coral, shell, or ivory.
  • DO NOT USE on Plated, Vermeil, Enameled or Filled Jewelry
  • DO NOT USE on Costume Jewelry!
  • Be careful not to breathe in fumes from ammonia.
  • Rinse gemstone jewelry thoroughly before drying and wearing.

on 11/11/2009 Sounds great Diane. You should also add not to use it on any organics, like ivory, coral, tortise shell, etc.

on 11/11/2009 Yes Amberdawn. You can use this on all solid gold or sterling silver and all gemstones. Never use it on plated or filled jewelry or soft gems like opals, pearls or amber.
