Step 1
Harvest basket for gardening gift basketPick a basket or other container that would be useful to a gardener. Using a basket that a gardener can’t use will only add clutter to their home. Consider using a harvest basket like the one pictured to the left here (link in resources section below). A gardener can use this type of basket to carry their harvests. A large terra cotta pot is another alternative.

Step 2
Tissue paperLay a couple of sheets of tissue paper on the bottom of the basket. This step is optional, but will provide a nice colorful foundation for your gift basket. Since this is a gift basket for a gardener, tissue paper in shades of green would be lovely. Alternately, if it is a holiday (such as Christmas or Valentine’s Day), you can use tissue paper in shades that reflect the holidays.

Step 3
Gardening glovesFind smallish tools for a gardener that can fit in the basket. Items to consider are gardening glover, handheld gardening tools, a spray bottle, packets of seeds, and peat seed starters.

Step 4
Add a book about gardening to your gift basket.Add books that your gardening gift basket recipient will appreiciate. Some ideas are books about gardening, vegetable gardening, edible container gardening, or a cook book about the types of fruits and vegetables they grow.

Step 5
Shrink wrap for gift baskets.Wrap the basket with a plastic shrink wrap made for gift baskets (link in resources below). Use your blow dryer to shrink the plastic around the basket. This will add a finishing touch to the basket, and will allow you to travel with the basket without having the items inside shift or fall out.
