   The first and most important aspect of teaching your child to be honest is to model what it means to be a person who lives with integrity. The people who live in your home will have their eyes on you when those doors are closed. Your actions, responses to situations, and how you deal with circumstances will show your family how honest of a person you really are. If you think you can tell a little "white" lie and it will not affect any one else, let me assure you, it will! There is no such thing as a white lie.

   Secondly, be consistent with the way you choose to discipline your children. Discipline is not a bad thing, it provides structure and stability which allow children to feel safe and protected. You must be consistent with your children. Kids are smart and they will see right through areas your not going to be straight with them on.

   And lastly, encouraging positive choices and behavior are a great way to show children the importance of being honest. Praise your children when they are honest and make the right decision. It is very easy to always tell them when they made the wrong one, but show them that an honest choice is worthy of a compliment.
