Sooner or later most computer users find that they require more USB ports to handle all the peripherals. Expanding a computer's USB ports is actually an easy task. Here is what to do. Just add an inexpensive USB hub. This little hub provides plenty of expansion. Enough for the average computer user.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Computer
  • USB Connections
  • USB Hubs
  1. Step 1

USB hubs are great for adding extra USB connections. And the computer user can also plug one USB hub into another for even more USB connections. Then it is possible to add dozens of USB connections to one computer USB port.

  2. Step 2

To get started purchase a USB hub at any local computer store or office supply store. Plug the USB hub into the USB port on the computer. This first hub is the root hub. Note: some hubs also have to be plugged into an electrical outlet. These types of hubs are called powered USB hubs. Check the box before purchasing to see if it is an outlet powered hub or one that is mainly powered by the computer connection. Many might prefer the hub that is powered by the computer connection because there are less cords and wires to handle.

  3. Step 3

Now, plug USB connections directly into the USB hub. Or even plug another USB hub into the first hub for multiple connections. And start computing. Note: USB hubs are relatively inexpensive and many cost less than $20.00.
