Make Southern Cornbread Sage Stuffing

This is a holiday favorite. I usually have to make an extra pan and put it up so my kids can have some to take back to school.
Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday. This stuffing is one of the highlights of my table. The key to this recipe is to make sure you cook enough

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Cornmeal
  • buttermilk
  • salt
  • pepper
  • sage sausage
  • turkey drippings
  • chicken broth
  • green peppers
  • onions
  1. Step 1

Take one pound of sage sausage and fry it. Be sure to crumble the meat and cook it thoroughly, then set a side. You can also use regular sausage and just add sage seasoning if you cannot find the sage sausage.

  2. Step 2

Take 3 cups of cornmeal 1/2 stick of melted butter, 1 cup of buttermilk, and 2 eggs. Mix well together and make two 9x12 pans of corn bread. Bake 25-30 minutes or until light brown. Remove let cool for a moment and crumble the cornbread into bread crumbs.

  3. Step 3

In a bowl chop onions, peppers, and add this to cornbread crumbs then mix well. Add 1 cup of chicken broth, turkey dripping including any cooked meat and sage sausage. Mix well

  4. Step 4

Add salt and pepper to taste. Place mixture in a baking pan or stuff your bird with the mixture. Place extra in a pan to cook on the side.
Bake turkey as normal or place pan in oven at 375 for 35 minutes.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you choose to bake in a pan add a little flour to mixture just a pinch.
