In early November 2009, Maclaren announced a recall of all baby strollers due to the potential for fingers to become entrapped in the hinge mechanism when closing or folding the stroller. It has been reported that 12 children have had their fingers amputated as a result of this defect.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • VIN number on the bottom of your Maclaren stroller
  • Access to the website: http://recall.maclarenbaby.com/
  1. Step 1

Confirm that you have a Maclaren stroller that is affected by the recall by looking at the stroller for the words "Maclaren" on it. You can also look at the bottom of your stroller for the Maclaren VIN number.

  2. Step 2

Keep in mind that all Maclaren strollers are affected by the recall including the following models purchased between 1999 and November 2009 at Babies "R" Us and Target: Volo, Triumph, Quest Sport, Quest Mod, Techno XT, TechnoXLR, Twin Triumph, Twin Techno and Easy Traveller.

  3. Step 3

The recall involves the elbow joint of the stroller's hinge mechanism. It poses a risk to the child when you are unfolding/opening or closing the stroller. When the stroller is fully opened there is no risk for the child.

  4. Step 4

The United States Consumer Product Safety Commission reported 12 children have suffered finger amputations in the United States as a result of the hinge mechanism on the stroller.

  5. Step 5

You can rest assured that you can receive a free repair kit from the company that protects the fingers of your child should they come in contact with the hinge mechanism of the stroller.

  6. Step 6

Simply go to the Maclaren website at http://recall.maclarenbaby.com/ and request the repair kit.

  7. Step 7

You will need to locate the VIN number on the bottom side of your stroller and fill out the online request form to have a free repair kit sent directly to your home within seven days.

  8. Step 8

In the meantime, Maclaren is recommending that you stop using your stroller until you can place the hinge covers on your stroller that are designed to fit all Maclaren strollers.

  9. Step 9

You should also remain aware that strollers are not designed to be opened or closed with your fingers. Maclaren strollers are specifically engineered to be opened and closed by foot. By following this precaution, the chances of your child being injured in a Maclaren stroller will be eliminated.
