Things You'll Need:
- Baskets
- Floral foam
- Skewers
- Tape
- Hot glue
- Shredded paper/tissue paper
- Cellophane wrap
- Ribbon
-
Step 1
Visit the dollar store or even a second hand store to view baskets. You can often find these for as little as dollar in the discount bin. Goodwill generally has bins of baskets in all shapes and sizes for a dollar or two. Do not worry if it is not the right color for your gift basket. A quick coat of paint can change the appearance and brighten the dullest baskets.
-
Step 2
Choose a theme for your gift basket. Just because you are giving the basket for Christmas does not mean your theme is Christmas. Although you could certainly stick with a Christmas theme, consider the likes of the recipient. Gardeners, birdwatchers or movie buffs all enjoy a themed basket with their needs in mind. Hand made fruit baskets may be ideal for someone who has everything but enjoys the pleasures of fresh fruits.
-
Step 3
Consider one or two gifts as the focal point of the gift basket. For a coffee lovers gift basket, a bag of gourmet coffee may be the main feature with inexpensive mugs and cookies to support the theme. For birdwatcher gift baskets, a book for bird identification or birdwatcher binoculars may serve as the focal point. These do not need to be expensive items, but should be something the recipient enjoys.
-
Step 4
Cut floral foam into varying sized blocks for elevating items in your gift basket. One large block at the center back creates a platform for a featured item. Smaller blocks to the front and sides allow you to elevate smaller items. Glue the blocks the to bottom of the basket in the desire location.
-
Step 5
Use double sided tape or a dab of hot glue to anchor gifts to the foam blocks. Small items can be taped to wooden skewers and displayed with the skewer inserted in the foam. This is a great way to display seed packets, tea bags, hot chocolate or fancy candies.
-
Step 6
Fill in around the foam with shredded paper or crumpled tissue paper that complements the color of the basket and completes the theme. Tuck inexpensive items like candies or trinkets into the tissue.
-
Step 7
Wrap the entire basket with colored cellophane or lace and tie up with a big bow for a delightful Christmas Gift Basket sure to please those on your Christmas list this year.
