Things You'll Need:
- A plan and time
- Imagination
-
Step 1
Plan ahead. February 14th is Valentine's Day but many people wait until the last minute to buy gifts, retailers know this and many of the gifts are marked up the weeks before Valentine's Day. By planning ahead and shopping after Christmas sales you can purchase a Valentine's Day gift early and save a lot of money.
-
Step 2
Get away for a weekend in your own town. Start by putting aside a little money every week and checking out all of the great hotel deals in your area. The recession means that hotels are discounting their rooms and services so the resort hotel in your area that you thought was out of reach, might just have a package available that's in your price range. Don't be afraid to call the hotel and negotiate a better deal. This usually works if you can be flexible with dates and you don't need to go Valentine's Day weekend.
-
Step 3
Long stem roses are expensive but are traditional gifts on Valentine's Day. Consider buying a miniature rose bush or a full size rose bush for the garden instead, these economical and environmentally friendly alternatives will give your loved one years of beautiful roses. Look for old-fashioned fragrant rose bushes that will thrive in your area. Buy one every year and build a Valentine's Rose Garden.
-
Step 4
Valentine's Day Vintage ValentinePurchase vintage Valentine's online, these romantic cards can be framed and kept as a permanent reminder of the day.
-
Step 5
Make chocolate truffles together. Truffles are relatively easy and inexpensive to make. Set time aside to make chocolates together and fill them with your favorite liquor. Sharing an activity together is a romantic way to celebrate Valentine's Day.
-
Step 6
Valentine's DinnerRecreate your first dinner together. A dinner out is still affordable for most people even during the recession but going out to dinner on Valentine's Day usually means a crowded restaurant, a limited menu and overpriced "specials." Consider cooking your favorite foods together or plan a romantic dinner out in January, which is usually most restaurant's slow time. You won't be rushed and the service will be better.
