How to Mix Probiotic Powder

Probiotics are helpful bacteria that aid in digestion and fight off bacteria that are bad for your health. Probiotics can be used as a daily supplement or to help balance bacteria levels when you are on an antibiotic.
There are several forms of probiotics: Some pills and powders need refrigeration, while others can be stored at room temperature. Certain yogurts have live bacteria as well, which you can eat to supplement your need for probiotics.

Instructions

  1. How to Mix Probiotic Powder

    • 1

Measure out the powder according to the package directions. The amount varies by brand and by the age of the person who is drinking the mixture.

    • 2

Place the powder in a cup or bottle that can hold at least 6 oz. You will want to have a little extra room for mixing.

    • 3

Fill the container with 5 oz. of warm or tepid water. Don't use cold or hot water, as those temperatures can kill the bacteria and impede absorption of the powder.

    • 4

Stir the water and powder mixture. If you have a bottle or closed container you can shake it to mix it.

    • 5

Drink the mixture immediately. Don't let it sit out in room temperature, as this can reduce the effectiveness of the drink.

Tips & Warnings

  • Starting a probiotic supplement regimen can lead to bloating and diarrhea. Try starting with a smaller dose than recommended and work your way up to the full dose over a week.
