How to Use Marine Foam

If you own a boat and enjoy going out on the water, it is important to use as much material that floats as possible. This is where marine foam comes into play. Marine foam is crafted to float, so you can use it as a flotation device. This foam can be used in mattresses, pillows, or any other area of the boat that needs padding. Marine foam can be purchased at most boat/aquatic stores.

Instructions

    • 1

Purchase any pillow, mattress, or cushion covers you want. Because the marine foam can float on its own it is all right to use any kind of material; however most marina-related shops do sell specific covers.

    • 2

Measure the size of the cover and transfer its dimensions to the marine foam to make sure you have the correct size. You can draw on the foam with a pen. Do not worry about the kind of ink unless you intend to use the foam on its own and not in a cushion. In that case, mark the foam with a pencil.

    • 3

Cut out the marine foam with a sharp utility knife. The foam should cut rather easily; however, you may need to apply pressure to cut through most of the foam.

    • 4

Retrace your cut with the utility knife until the measured marine foam has been removed from the larger piece.

    • 5

Insert the marine foam into the cushion or mattress cover. Depending on the kind of cover, you may need to tie or zip up the cover to properly secure the marine foam.
