In "Mario Kart Wii," players race through eight different cups comprising four tracks each on four difficulty levels. The game awards players a rating after completing each cup. The highest rating possible is three stars. Achieving a three-star rating on any cup requires nearly flawless racing throughout all four tracks of the cup. This requires a considerable amount of practice for most players.

Difficulty: Challenging
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • "Mario Kart Wii"
  • Nintendo Wii
  1. Step 1

Unlock and practice racing all the tracks in "Mario Kart Wii." You can unlock new cups and tracks by achieving at least third place on the previous cup. Practicing in the time trial mode and online is a good way to hone your skills.

  2. Step 2

Choose characters that have speed bonuses, which will give you an extra edge when going for three stars. Good characters to pick are Funky Kong, Roselina, Luigi, Daisy, Peach, Baby Daisy and Baby Luigi.

  3. Step 3

Choose a fast bike with inside drift and the "manual" driving setting. Bikes are better than karts because they can perform wheelies to increase speed on straightaways. The best bikes with high speed and inside drift are the mach bike, flame runner and bullet bike. The manual driving setting allows you to do mini-turbos and hop, which can give you some extra speed.

  4. Step 4

Play the cup on which you want to achieve a three-star ranking and complete all four tracks making as few errors as possible. Your goal should be to defeat the computer characters with as large a lead as possible, taking special care to avoid getting hit by any items, hitting walls, falling off the stage, or getting slowed down by any other obstacles. If you raced very fast and flawlessly or very close to flawlessly, you will get three stars.

Tips & Warnings
  • The awarding of the three-star rating can seem random or arbitrary. Sometimes you might think you raced perfectly but not get three stars.
  • For inexperienced gamers, it may take weeks or months of practice to achieve three-star ratings.
