An odorous sink may be one of the most difficult kitchen messes to bear. When the smell of refuse wafts up in your face from the depths of your drain, it is time to take a few simple steps to eradicate the odors and freshen it up.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Plain salt
  • Water
  • Clear glass
  • Baking soda
  • Chlorine bleach
  • Two lemons
  • Cutting board
  • Utility knife
  • Measuring cup
  • Spoon
  1. Step 1

Place one cup of warm water into the clear glass. Add enough salt so that the water becomes cloudy and mix the salt water well with the spoon. Pour the salt water down the drain and leave it to sit undisturbed for at least 10 minutes. Run warm water for one or two minutes and turn the garbage disposal on if you have one.

  2. Step 2

Boil approximately one quart of water. Pour one cup of plain salt and one cup of baking soda down the sink. Pour the boiling water down the sink. Leave the sink undisturbed without running any water for two to three hours. Then run warm water for one or two minutes and start the garbage disposal, if possible.

  3. Step 3

Measure and pour 1/2 cup of chlorine bleach down the sink. Follow the bleach with 1/2 cup of warm water. Leave the sink undisturbed for one hour. Run warm water for approximately five minutes and then run the garbage disposal to finish.

  4. Step 4

Cut the lemons into quarter sections and place them down the garbage disposal. Run the garbage disposal. This will dispose of the lemons and freshen the sink at the same time.
