Tips & Warnings

  • Begonias do not tolerate cold. Start your seeds indoors and do not place begonias in any form outside until after all risk of frost has passed.

  • Begonias do best in full sun. Do not over-water. Wait for the plant's soil to dry between watering. Remove dead flowers, leaves and stems.

  • Begonia seeds are sown in finely sifted compost. The tiny seeds should be scattered on top of the soil and pressed into the soil, but not covered. A sheet of glass must be placed over the pots to keep temperatures in the 60s.

  • Don't worry if your begonias don't begin to flower early in the spring. Begonias are phototropic and don't begin to flower until the length of daylight reaches 12 hours.
