1
Set the humidity level of your humidor. Most humidors come with at least two humidity settings: low and high. Some may come with more. If your cigars are drying out, increase the humidity level, which will increase the moisture.
-
2
Refill the humidity regulator in your humidor as directed by product instructions. Generally, the regulator should be refilled with distilled water twice during the first month of use, then once per month for each month after that.

3
Refill the humidity regulator with starter fluid, or humidor juice, every fourth month of use. Humidor juice is available at cigar and tobacco specialty stores and is designed to keep the humidor clean and performing properly.
-
4
Soak a paper towel in distilled water and wipe the walls of the humidor if you find moisture fading. If you have room you can choose to keep the damp paper towel in the humidor; replace the paper towel at least every two weeks.
-
5
Seal the humidor firmly each time you open it to prevent moisture from escaping.
-
6
Soak humidor beads in distilled water and then store them in the box with the cigars. Humidor beads are available for purchase at cigar and tobacco specialty stores. They will release moisture as needed into the humidor to keep humidity up.
