How to Treat Fibromyalgia With Provigil

Fibromyalgia is a medical condition centered in the joints, muscles or tendons of the human body. It causes overall body stiffness that can severely interfere with daily routines of life. Additionally, since much of the body is painful to the touch, it becomes difficult for fibromyalgia sufferers to achieve adequate sleep. This leads to fatigue, which can bring anxiety and depression.

      Avoid using Provigil if you have a background of alcohol or drug abuse, heart problems, high blood pressure, liver or kidney issues or mental health problems. It is not recommended in these instances since it can exacerbate rather than help these conditions.

      Avoid taking with Provigil with antifungal antibiotics, antidepressants, beta-blockers, blood pressure controllers, cyclosporine, MAO inhibitors, rifamprin, sedatives and seizure medications. They will limit or negate the effects of Provigil.

      Discontinue taking Provigil if you intend to imbibe alcohol, operate heavy equipment or participate in dangerous activities like skiing, mountain climbing or flying. Women using hormones may wish to discontinue its use as well since they could suffer an increased risk for pregnancy. The drug could also harm an unborn fetus.

      Take Provigil only in the dosage amount recommended by your physician. It comes in dosages of 100 and 200 milligrams and, in most instances, 200 mg or more is recommended for healthy adults. Older patients and those with health issues may require a reduced dosage.

      Take the drug with a full glass of water. It can be taken with or without food, although some find taking it with food prevents stomach upset. Take the drug only as prescribed. Taking more Provigil, redosing during the day, or extending the drug's use beyond the recommended time period could be dangerous to your health.

      Provigil should be taken one or two hours before beginning your daily activities in order to ensure its optimal effectiveness.

      Avoid using Provigil as a sleep replacement. Always strive for eight hours of restful sleep prior to taking the drug.

      Store Provigil at room temperature, unexposed to cold, heat or moisture.

      Watch for side effects like anxiety, appetite loss, back pain, cottonmouth, diarrhea, difficulty sleeping, dizziness, forgetfulness, nausea, neck stiffness, nervousness, runny nose, severe headache and sore throat. These are typical and will like decline as your body gets use to the drug.

      Report to your physician if allergic reaction or severe side effects are seen. Allergic reactions include hives, rash, swelling and trouble breathing or swallowing.

      Severe side effects include chest pain or irregular heartbeat; excessive bruising; hallucinations or major behavioral changes; high fever; numbness, tingling, or weakness of one or more body parts; skin blistering, peeling, rash or reddening; signs of infection; sudden onset of anxiety or depression, trouble breathing and vomiting.

      Watch for overdose symptoms such as confusion, extreme agitation or aggressive ness, diarrhea, escalated anxiety, irritability, nausea accompanied by vomiting, palpitations, sleep disorders and tremors.

Tips & Warnings

  • Provigil is an adult medication is not recommended for children under the age of 18, except in rare circumstances.

  • Do not prescribe Provigil to athletes who want to participate in competitions. It is listed as a banned drug for competitive purposes.

  • Provigil is a controlled substance and can, therefore, be addictive. However, properties of the drug make abuse less likely than many other medications in the same drug family.
