Some gardeners call this beautiful summer flower campanula and others know it as bellflowers. Regardless of the name, adding this lovely bloomer to a sunny or partially sunny flower garden is sure to bring years of enjoyment. Choose a campanula variety with the bloom color of your choice. When the plant is finished blossoming in the middle of the summer, prune it back to encourage a second bloom.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Watch and enjoy the blooms of the campanula plant so that you will know when the plant is finished with the first bloom of the summer.

  2. Step 2

Use the pruning shears to cut back the stems by approximately half of their length. This will tidy the appearance of the campanula plant and encourage it to put forth a burst of bushy growth. Cut the stems at any point.

  3. Step 3

Deadhead this second bloom if you wish; however, do not perform a second severe pruning because you do not want to encourage the plant to put forth another burst of growth just prior to the end of the growing season.
