1
Select the paint color for the room. It sounds simple but it may be one of the biggest decisions of the project. Color makes a big impact on a room and the overall feeling of the room so it's an important decision. Consider how you want the living room to feel. Choose warm, earthy colors for a cozy room. Choose cool colors for a brighter look. Light colors are best for a small living room to create an open feeling.

2
Move all of the living room furniture away from the walls. If possible, move the furniture out of the room completely to make the job easier. Cover any pieces of furniture that remain in the room, particularly if they are close to the walls.

3
Place drop cloths on the floor to protect the floor covering.
-
4
Adhere painter's tape to window trim, baseboards, the ceiling line and other fixtures that need to be protected from the paint.
-
5
Apply a coat of primer to all of the walls using a clean paint roller. Allow the primer to dry fully before moving on to the painting process.
-
6
Apply two coats of the living room paint color, allowing each coat to dry fully. Apply the paint in thin layers for the best finished product. View the finished product at different times of day to see how it looks. Two coats should be enough for most colors. Some darker colors may need a third coat.

7
Remove the drop cloths and painter's tape. Hang the living room wall decor back on the walls once the paint is dry. Move the living room furniture back to its original location.
