How to Troubleshoot Weber Grills

Weber's gas grills are known in part for their durability, but problems do sometimes occur. If the burners produce an orange or yellow flame, rather than a red flame, chances are that the grill's Spider Stopper Guards need to be cleaned. If the burners fail to light or only produce a small flame, the excess flow safety device probably needs to be reset. In either event, fixing the problem is fairly simple.

Burners Produce Orange or Yellow Flame

1. Remove the control panel to access the Spider Stopper Guards. The control panel is the shelf located above the gas tank. To remove the panel, pull upward on each of the burner control knobs to remove them from the top of the panel, then remove the two screws on the end of the panel with a Phillip's head screwdriver. Lift the panel upwards to disconnect it.

2. Locate the Spider Stopper Guards. The Guards are circular metal pieces located at the base of each burner tube, where the tube enters the gas line, and feature several small holes.

3. Inspect and clean the Spider Stopper Guards for signs of dirt or debris. Clean the Guards by brushing them with a soft bristle brush, such as a toothbrush.

4. Position the control panel onto the barbecue, then install the panel's two screws with a Phillip's head screwdriver.

Burners Fail to Light or Produce Only a Small Flame

5. Turn all burner control knobs and the valve on top of the gas tank to the "OFF" position.

6. Remove the regulator valve from the gas tank. The regulator is the pipe that connects directly to the gas tank. The tip of the regulator valve slides through a metal collar and into the tank. To remove the valve, pull the metal collar towards the gas tank and pull the valve away from the tank.

7. Turn each burner knob to the "HIGH" position, then allow at least one minute to pass.

8. Turn each burner knob to the "OFF" position.

9. Reconnect the regulator valve to the gas tank by pulling the metal collar towards the gas tank, then by insert the tip of the regulator valve into the gas tank. Release the collar to secure the valve in place, then turn the valve on top of the gas tank to the "ON" position.
