Jell-O gelatin is often served as a dessert. Jell-O comes in several flavors, all of which contain dyes that can stain your carpet. Children can accidentally get Jell-O on your carpets because it is slippery. If this happens, take action right away. The sooner you spot the stain, the better your chance is of removing it.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Water
  • White towels
  • Oxygen cleaning product
  • Empty spray bottle
  1. Step 1

Pour a small amount of water over the Jell-O stain. It is important for the stain to remain a liquid so you can remove it easier. If the stain has already dried, add the water and wait a few minutes. It will become liquid again.

  2. Step 2

Lay a white towel over the stain and gently press down on it. This will draw up some of the liquid from the Jell-O. It will stain the towel, so don't use your favorite white bath towels. Keep blotting up the liquid until the towel is no longer absorbing the liquid.

  3. Step 3

Mix 1/8 cup of an oxygen-based cleaning product such as OxiClean, with two cups of hot water. Pour this mixture into a spray bottle. Spray your Jell-O stain with it, and let it sit for five minutes.

  4. Step 4

Use another white towel to blot up the rest of the Jell-O stain. Remember to press down gently. Continue until all of the liquid has been absorbed by the towel.

  5. Step 5

Sprinkle the area with a few drops of vinegar to get rid of any lingering odors that may be in the fibers of the carpet.

Tips & Warnings
  • Wash your white towels with a cup of bleach to remove the Jell-O stains as soon as you have finished cleaning the stain.
  • If you do not have OxiClean, you can use hydrogen peroxide.
  • Never rub the spot. This will cause the stain to spread to the surrounding carpet fibers.
