How to Hang Scarves With Curtains

Curtains or drapery panels alone can look attractive over windows, but often a homeowner chooses to add a decorative valance over the window treatment for added interest. A scarf valance is an easy valance to add to curtains, and it requires no sewing whatsoever. Choose a scarf that is long enough to hang down on the sides of each window. Select a fabric that will drape attractively over the center of the window. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Attach the scarf hooks into the wood of the window frame or the wall above the window frame. Climb the ladder and simply screw the hooks into the wall approximately two inches above the left and right corners of the window.

    • 2

Fold the scarf back and forth in accordion-style folds to create a pleated scarf. Make the folds each four inches wide.

    • 3

Find the center of the folded window scarf and grasp this center in one hand before attempting to hang the scarf.

    • 4

Climb the ladder (if necessary) and position the center of the scarf at the center of the window. This is for positioning only -- you will not be attaching the scarf at the center of the window. From the center of the scarf, loosely drape the left half of the scarf over the left scarf hook. Loosely drape the right half of the scarf over the right scarf hook. For the most visually pleasing result, drape the scarf so that it hangs lower in the center and is pulled up to each corner. Allow the ends of the scarf to fall straight down the sides of the window.

Step off the ladder and step back to assess the window scarf. If necessary, adjust the pleats so they are visually pleasing.
