Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 12 cups popped popcorn
  • 2 tablespoons butter or cooking spray
  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 1/2 cup light corn syrup
  • 1/2 cup water
  • Candy thermometer
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • Food coloring, optional
  • Salt, optional
  1. Step 1

Pour the popped popcorn into a large bowl, and place it inside the oven on warm.

  2. Step 2

Butter the bottom and the sides of a large saucepan, or coat them generously with cooking spray.

  3. Step 3

Place the sugar, corn syrup and water into the saucepan. Heat on medium high until the candy mixture begins to boil. Stir often to dissolve the sugar.

  4. Step 4

Attach a candy thermometer to the side of the saucepan. Turn the heat down to medium and continue to boil the candy until the temperature reaches 300 degrees. Remove the thermometer from the saucepan, and remove the saucepan from the heat.

  5. Step 5

Stir the vanilla and food coloring into the candy. Remove the popcorn from the oven. Drizzle the liquid candy over the popcorn, and sprinkle with salt. Combine the mixture using a wooden spoon, and then allow it to cool for 15 to 20 minutes.

  6. Step 6

Break the popcorn apart using your hands, and then serve immediately or store in plastic zipper bags.
