How to Use Kirby Sentria Carpet Shampooer

The Kirby Sentria is a powerful vacuum cleaner. The Sentria includes a carpet shampooer that must be assembled. The shampooer is easy to use once it is assembled, but assembly is complicated. Your carpet must be vacuumed thoroughly before you begin shampooing it.

Assemble the Shampooer

1. Turn off the power switch on your Sentria and unplug the power cord from the wall. Use the foot switch selector to raise the power nozzle to the highest position.

2. Flip down the handle on the front of the power nozzle. Turn the handle counterclockwise until the red arrows are aligned. This unhooks the belt and allows you to remove the power nozzle.

3. Pull the power nozzle away from the vacuum and set it aside. Attach the shampooer nozzle and the shampooer belt to the plastic tray. Turn the handle on the front of the shampooer nozzle until the red arrows are lined up.

4. Insert the shampooer nozzle and tray onto the vacuum. Turn the handle until the green arrows line up. Place the sponge and protective screen onto the Kirby shampooer tank reservoir.

5. Fill the reservoir with warm water to one of the fill marks. For each fill mark, you will need to add one capful of the Kirby carpet cleaner. Attach the reservoir to the vacuum. Attach the tank hose to the shampooer nozzle and tray.

Shampoo the Carpet

1. Lower the shampooer head to the lowest position using the foot selector. Turn the valve on the reservoir clockwise to begin applying the shampoo foam.

2. Apply the foam onto small sections of the carpet. Work from one end of the room to the next to avoid stepping on the damp carpet. Let the foam sit for about five minutes.

3. Turn the reservoir valve counterclockwise to shut off the shampoo foam. Begin picking up the foam and shampooing the carpet.

4. Slowly go over the shampooed area with the Kirby. The slower you move the vacuum, the better the scrub brush will work, and the more foam you will pick up. Continue until the foam in the section is gone.

5. Repeat the procedure on heavily soiled sections of carpet. Once you have finished with a section, move to the next section. Continue until you are satisfied with the carpet.

Tips & Warnings

• Pretreat the carpet first if it is heavily soiled or stained. Kirby recommends using its brand of pretreating solution, but other brands should work just fine.

• If the carpet is not vacuumed first, shampooing it will not be effective. Make sure your carpet is thoroughly vacuumed first.
