How to Save Wilted Pansies
Pansies are a popular flower for fall, winter and spring gardens. They're available in colors such as blue, orange, red, yellow, purple and white. With more than 300 varieties, they can easily blend into any type of garden. Pansies are easy to take care of, but they can suffer from wilt. Fungal diseases, lack of water or improper placement can make pansies wilt. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Determine the cause of your wilted pansies. If pansies have continually been planted into the same pot each year, they may have a fungus disease called Pythium. The disease builds up in the soil, causing the flowers to wilt.
Gently dig the pansies out of the pot, taking as much of the root as possible. Place in a new pot with fresh garden soil.
-
2
Water the pansies if the cause of wilting does not appear to be a fungal disease (if, for example, the pansies have not been planted in the same pot of soil year after year). Pansies need about 1 inch of water a week or they'll wilt.

3
Determine how much sunlight the pansies are getting. Some thrive in full sunlight; others prefer partial shade. Pansies that prefer some shade may wilt in full sun.
If you're not sure what type of pansy you have, take a sample (one or two blooms) to a garden center for help identifying the pansy. If your pansies have been planted in the wrong location, transplant them to a better suited location.

4
Start over with a fresh batch of if the causes don't appear to be any of the ones listed above. Occasionally, bad flower seeds may produce pansies that simply don't thrive, resulting in wilted pansies.

Tips & Warnings
Always purchase your pansies from a reputable garden center.
Read the plant markers for each type of pansies you are considering. This will help you determine if you have the proper amount of sunlight and shade for that particular pansy.
Garden fertilizer can help pansies grow and bloom.
Fertilizer can be toxic to people and animals, so make sure to store it in a secure location.
Avoid watering in later afternoon or early evening; it can make your pansies susceptible to disease.
