How to Remove Mold on Furniture
Mold is a kind of fungus that grows in damp (or humid) areas that receive little sunlight. It tends to attack furniture that is in storage or in a room such as a basement. - Wood cleaner
- Upholstery cleaner
- Cloth

Spray a wood or upholstery cleaner onto the moldy part of the furniture. Wipe off the furniture with a cloth. Dip the cloth into warm water. Wring out the cloth and wipe again.

Mix a solution of detergent and water to disinfect the furniture. Mix one cup of detergent for every three parts of water. For mold that has permeated into the surface of the furniture, use a solution of chlorine bleach, detergent and water. Mix one part bleach for every five parts water.

Test the solution on the back (or bottom) of the furniture. Wait a few minutes to see how it affects the wood. This is particularly important when using the chlorine bleach solution. Use a more diluted mix if the first solution changes the color of the furniture.

Dip a cloth (or sponge) into the solution. Wipe the furniture. Wipe harder for mold that has invaded the surface of the furniture This will help remove the mold from its roots.

Rinse the furniture. Allow furniture to dry as completely as possible. Aim a fan at furniture if inside. If possible, take furniture outside and expose it to the sun.

Tips & Warnings
It's important to remove mold from furniture in its early stages. The longer the mold is allowed to grow, the more difficult it will be to remove. It's entirely possible you may have to discard upholstered furniture.
Wear rubber gloves, old clothes, eye protection and a surgical mask when scrubbing mold. Mold can be toxic. Be very careful about using the chlorine beach solution on upholstered furniture. Do not use the solution with bleach on finished surfaces.
